Just like with thunderstorms, many dogs' fear of vacuums stems from the loud, high-frequency noises the machine makes. Dogs who are already sound sensitive or nervous may be particularly predisposed to discomfort around the vacuum being used in the home.

Why Are Dogs Scared of Vacuums? Dogs are often afraid of vacuums for a simple reason: They're loud and have a strange, confusing odor (remember that our dogs' primary sense is their sense of smell. ) ... Our dog's sense of hearing is also much more sensitive than ours, making loud noises a whole lot less tolerable.

One of the main reasons dogs are afraid of vacuums is the noise.

dogs have a keen sense of hearing, so if the vacuum seems loud to you, it is much worse for your dog.

Not only do vacuums produce a lot of noise, but they also produce high-frequency sounds that can frighten or annoy your dog.
