The AKC standard for Pembroke corgis requires that their tail be docked. The
origin of this ritual was because their tails were traditionally docked as the breed was created as a cattle herder
. The tail had no purpose in herding cattle and only served as a liability for the dog. As a puppy, many folks argue that they don't feel pain.
