A German shepherd puppy should never be left alone with other dogs that are mouthy, and might like to tug on the puppy’s ears. German shepherd ears should never be rubbed excessively or played with by human hands. This can weaken the cartilage and cause the puppy’s ears to never stand correctly.

People buying a young German Shepherd often get worried about the ears being floppy and not standing straight. It takes a German Shepherd’s ears to stand up after 20 weeks. It is because that a German Shepherd being a puppy is very weak and their cartilage is not strong enough to take the burden of their big ears.

Their ears can stand up anywhere from eight weeks to eight months of age. Most German Shepherd get pointy ears when they finish teething. However, if a dog’s ears don’t stand up by nine months, they most likely never will. But there’s nothing to worry about if your dog’s ears haven’t perked up just yet.

The high calcium content in these foods is said to help a German Shepherd’s ears to stand up given that their natural calcium is being used in the development of their teeth. But does it work? I cannot find any research to suggest that calcium helps to fix floppy ears, and it appears to be more of an anecdotal solution used by owners.

If they are not present when the dog is through the tooth (which varies from dog to dog but usually, between 16 and 20 weeks) German Shepherd Dog owners will get very excited and eager on their ears. While this is not a time to be afraid, it is time to sit down and take notice. When do German shepherd ears go up.
