  • Panting can be brought on by any type of stress or over-excitement, but it can also be a result of an illness or chronic condition, such as Cushing's Disease, heart disease or a pulmonary disease. Your dog's excessive panting may be caused by pain, discomfort or a fever related to an illness.

  • Your dog can be panting as a response to pain. If your dog is panting and salivating excessively, retching and has a distended abdomen, he might be suffering from bloat. Bloat is a life-threatening condition, take your dog to a vet immediately! Other causes of pain can include pancreatitis or joint pain.
