Purchasing a Labrador Retriever through a breeder can cost anywhere from $300 to $1,000 (more if you want a quality show or field-trial dog). And if you do adopt a Lab from an animal shelter or through a rescue group, you may think that the dog will be cheap — even free.

Generally, a Labrador doesn’t have it in their nature to attack someone. It is a friendly and playful breed; not a threatening, protective one. A Labrador is the most loyal dog you can find, but don’t expect them to fight. it is just not in their personality. Not all Labradors are like that though.

Most times, Labrador Retrievers will understand this and easily listen to the training that you are providing. Yet, that does not change the fact that your dog is protective over you. If you are not home and a stranger comes into your house, your dog is going to protect the house like it is your life at stake because of his extreme loyalty.

Yes, labradors can protect the house; labs get attached to their possessions and territory, meaning if an attack occurs or your dog sensed the feeling of danger, he will be ready to lead in defense of his possessions.
