Treatment for dog limping usually depends on the cause. Some limping will resolve on its own. In many cases, the first step of treatment includes rest and medication (especially if your vet suspects a sprain/strain, arthritis, or minor issue).

Many mild lamenesses are due to minor injuries that settle down after a short period of rest.

A good rule of thumb is to rest an affected dog completely for a week or so, then gradually to introduce normal exercise.

If the lameness does not respond to this, you need to take them to the vet.
